Yabut, E.L., Rabino, R., & Cosme, M. (November 2018). Carrageenan as Plant Growth Promoter for Zingiber Officinale Plant. Digos City: University of Mindanao.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Carrageenan as plat growth promoter for Zingiber Officinale (ginger) plants. The effects were evaluated through its observable morphological characteristics such as, plat growth o plant height, number of leaves and number of tillers or shoot plants that grows on the same ginger rhizome. Type of seaweeds being used was Eucheuma Denticulam. Extracted solid and liquid residues were used for the application. The application of carrageenan varies on the type of morphological characteristics to be evaluated. For the plant growth of height, solid residues were applied o the top soil closely to were the ginger rhizome where sown. Evaluation of the application of liquid extracts was shown to the observable effects of the plant’s number of leaves. And lastly, both solid and liquid were applied to evaluate effects of carrageenan that were shown through number of tillers of plants. The effects were recorded and observed on 4th, 6th, 10th, and lastly 12th week. Number of tillers observable affects was only recorded on the 12th week from the 1st week it was sown. The calculated results have shown different effects of carrageenan on plants morphological characteristics. Based on the calculated mean, developments were observed in terms of plants height and number of leaves. Carrageenan application of both solid and liquid extracts have shown no effects on the number of tillers of Zingiber officinale plants.
